| The 709th Infantry Div. was in charge of the eastern part of the Cotentin Peninsula. The 105 mm guns at Brécourt probably belonged to the 191st Artillery regiment which had 12 105's in the area...
Army coastal artillery reg.1261 was manning Varreville (XYZ complex)

| Nope! havent found zilch about that neither in Koskimaki's, nor Bando's or Burgett's books... sorry! Second thoughts : could be 3rd and 6th batteries... very controversial issue though... the 91st Luftlande was around too... Definetly 10,5cm guns, but French or Czech???

| The cannons i always heard they were german? There s a site with pics of the positions of cannons and MGs like this one on a site called ddaybrecourt.com or something like that and the owner has some pics i made as well
Where did you hear about 3rd or 6th batterie?
91 luftlande division was just behind the 709 ID so i wonder why they placed a batterie in the space of the 709 ID.
would be nice to see a Soldbuch of a soldier of that batterie eh eh |

| No... reenacting.uk....
listen, the more I look, the more it gets confusing... The 709 th Division did have 4 french 105mmm Howitzers... but they nowhere around... Guns might very well be german made...
All that's left is this...

Lets keep searchin' buddy... |

| And the guns were not manned by genuine crew. When Von der Heyte came on a motorcycle to visit the battlefield, early in the morning, he found that battery empty, the crew simply vanished !!! VDH came back to Carentan, gather some isolated german soldiers, and bring them back to serve the battery. _________________ MEMBRE DU D-DAY OVERLORD REENACTMENT GROUP.

| Sorry Pips but your info is strongly denied by most historians ; NO FJ AT Brecourt... That's the reason why so many people around the world are trying to figure out who was manning the 105's vs E/506...
VDH : These parts are supposedly still at Brecourt and presented as the only leftovers from the original guns by M. De Vallavielle himself! |

| Gen', in my mind, it seems that members of the 6FJR were in charge of the defense of the Brecourt Manor. Mark Bando's books and Stephane Ambrose's one claims that a company of the 6FJR was at Brecourt when E Co attacked the area..... And as Pips said, when VDH saw none german at Brecourt, he ordered to one of his company to go there and secure the area.
But I can have wrong.... See you. _________________ -Grand père, as-tu été un héros pendant la guerre? -Non, mais j'ai servi dans une compagnie de héros.

Who is neither an artillery officer nor a specialist in artillery. In my business, I've seen so many people telling and showing so many bullsh.... that I'm no longer surprised.
M De Vallavielle is a nice person, but was a teenager then and that day was in a US Army field hospital after beeing shot in the back by a US paratrooper. _________________ MEMBRE DU D-DAY OVERLORD REENACTMENT GROUP.
